The fishing is still here. Lots of whopper trout out on the sand flats for some funny reason. Catching them has been difficult with the long rod. Trout fishing in general has been great with the exception of the aforementioned scenario. Limits of 18 to 22 inch trout have been the norm when the wind lays down. On the other side with lots of heavy wind the reds have been biting better than the trout. Kelly Wigglers have been the bait of choice in their Ball Tail eel in sand color. check out or web site @ www.islandoutfittersspi.com or give us a call at 956-433-9935 Tight Lines

However some of my other buddies have been doing well site casting them with white Kelly Wigglers called “Ball Tails”. With spring springing into action we should all be catching limits of reds before too long.

Since the weather has cleared up from our three weeks of rains and wind, cool wind at that, the fishing just exploded, Limits of trout to start out the day, with limits of reds later on in the day. I’ve fished six trips in the last three days, taking advantage of the nice weather and fishing has been awesome. The trout are eating plastic and the reds cut bait. However site casting with gulp has been working too on the reds, but you have to show them the gulp before they’ll eat it.

It’s sometimes hard to find time to post these things when your fishing everyday anad I appologize for that. But fishing has been really good as of late. Unlike most years with all the freshwater run off from Alex the trout fishing has been excellant and we’ve been catching them right here in our front yard so to speak. Reds on ther other hand have been around the same spots, the three island area so we still have to make that run up north to catch them. Limits of trout and reds have been the norm and flounder are non existant for the most part.

Been really busy as of late and haven’t posted any new reports since May, but here goes one now. Before the storm Alex came by we were doing great with limits of both reds and trout the norm. However, the tides came up with the storm and seemed to have scattered the fish. Since then the tides did not recede until yesturday some two weeks later. This made fishing really tough. You had to work hard for what we caught and are still doing that as of yesterday. Two reds and 3 trout is all we brought in but that was up a little from the last 3 trips.

The tides have finally went down now to near normal and I expect to find more concetrations of fish over the next few days. It’s time to settle into our early summer patterns with trout holding on the ICW and the redfish to start schooling.

Yesturday, Ryan Foster and his freind Megan managed a limit of trout and 4 nice reds. We also released a 26 in. trout while fishing for the reds. Using top waters Megan caught her first ever redfish. She said freshwater fish don’t fight that hard, maybe she’s hooked:) Good on ya girl…

Well the last week has been great. The rains quit, the fish were biting, and we’ve had a good time. Howard Nickols came down and fished with Lola. They managed to catch a limit of trout and reds.

Nathan Powers and his fishing buddy Robert caught a limit of trout but not any really good ones. Most were in the 18 to 20″ range. Two reds were also caught but the wind died for us that day and made drifting tough. The fist day of the last four trips we didn’t limit out on everything. Still catching them on Gulp, white..
